This is the trip for the active visitor with a love of nature. We recommend using a car to get from place to place, but most locations are also accessible by public transport.

07:30 Breakfast followed by a hike along Gårdshultsleden
Wake up in the countryside and enjoy breakfast at PaulssonPaleo. External link, opens in new window. Early birds have the opportunity to book a relaxing morning yoga class in the woods beneath the cathedral-like canopy. Naturally, staff will be only too happy to recommend the best place for a morning dip – whether in the quiet lake Brearedssjön or the glittering waters of the River Assman.

Afterwards, pack a thermos of coffee and set off along the beautiful hiking trail Gårdshultsleden, which passes by PaulssonPaleo. The trail passes through the beautiful Gårdshult Nature Reserve (swe), External link, opens in new window. through a cultural landscape that will make you feel like you are in an Astrid Lindgren movie and past the roaring waters of the Danish Falls (Danska fall). If you fancy a detour, you can follow the trail Smedhultaleden and climb the hill at Höjabjär, from where on a clear day you can see all the way to Halmstad!

11:30 Bicycle tour through Simlångsdalen with lunch at Nicola’s Café
Book a cycle from Mountain Biking in Halmstad External link, opens in new window. and receive tips and inspiration on which trails would be best suited to your requirements. Then cycle to Nicola’s Café (swe) External link, opens in new window. for a delightful lunch before setting off into the forest.

Stop beside Torvsjön for a lakeside picnic in Skedala Forest. You can buy a prepared picnic basket from Tallhöjden Inn (swe). External link, opens in new window. Weather permitting, we recommend a refreshing dip in the still waters before making your way back to Simlångsdalen.

19:00 Dinner at Ulvered Deer Farm
Head south in the evening to Ulvereds Hjorthagn (Ulvered Deer Farm) (swe), External link, opens in new window. just across the border in Laholm Municipality. Enjoy a wonderful dinner, the ingredients for which are sourced a stone’s throw from your table. The farm provides a unique and fantastic atmosphere with nature a constant, nearby presence. 08:00 Breakfast followed by SUP on the River Fylle
After another splendid breakfast at PaulssonPaleo, it’s time to check out and make your way to the River Fylle to try Stand Up Paddle (SUP). An SUP adventure on the River Fylle is something out of the ordinary; you might even find it hard to believe that you are still in Sweden, as you glide through an almost Amazonian environment with branches hanging over the water and rocks emerging from the water to test your steering. In other words, the obstacles that enliven your trip can turn it into a real adventure. 12:00 Lunch in the city followed by a hike along Prince Bertil’s Trail
Round off your weekend with a visit to Halmstad city centre, where you will find a wide range of options for a pleasant lunch. You can find tips in our Lunch Guide and on our page on Halmstad’s restaurants. For parking tips, visit our Getting Around page.

Once you have parked your car, head for Halmstad Castle, from where you can set off along the coast on Prince Bertil’s Trail, perhaps Halmstad’s most alluring walk. Enjoy lunch on the banks of the Nissan at the cosy family-run restaurant Söderfamiljen, External link, opens in new window. or at Västra Stranden in the delightful beachside café Söderpiren (South Pier). After a delicious lunch, continue on your way along the salt-sprayed coastal path. The easily accessible Prince Bertil’s Trail takes you on a journey through scenic countryside, past everything from sandy beaches, coastal woodland, cliffs and old stone quarries to marinas and fishing coves. You will pass places with stunning views, secluded bathing areas and mysterious locations that bear witness to both quarrying and Viking battles. Your hike completed, you are fully deserving of afternoon refreshments. Aside from the beautiful coastal scenery, the route passes a number of exciting sights and tourist attractions, which is why Kustvägen is signposted with the Swedish Transport Administration’s brown and white Tourist Route signs. Just follow the brown signs with the white flower and you can’t go wrong.

Reinvigorated, you are now ready for an afternoon of culture. Having travelled back in time, whether into the world of vintage automobiles or agriculture, treat yourself to fika at traditional stone oven bakery Solhaga Stenugnsbageri (swe). The day concludes with the little gem Kvibille, a village with fascinating remains from the Bronze Age and onwards into the twentieth century. Check in to the old inn dating from 1645, where Anders and Maria will be delighted to welcome you for a wonderfully relaxed evening in the restaurant. If you’re lucky, the innkeeper himself may bring out the guitar to play a song or two. He even has a repertoire of exciting stories to share: ask him about the tale of “the switch”...

08:00 Enjoy breakfast at the Kvibille Inn and experience Kvibille’s cultural heritage
Begin the day with a hearty breakfast at the inn. Visit the popular cheese shop, which is also located at the inn. Afterwards, take a stroll through the history of the village on the Kvibille Culture Trail. The trail covers approximately 4 kilometres and takes you on a journey from the Bronze Age into the twentieth century. Stops along the way include the Runestone, which is walled into the church, the Dungeon where Johan Jacob Olsson Qwick awaited execution and the Courthouse where legal disputes concerning the inhabitants of Halmstad were resolved.

Make your way back to Halmstad city centre to visit Halland Art Museum. Enjoy a tasty lunch in the museum’s café while appreciating the beautiful views across the River Nissan.
