Take a trip out into the countryside and enjoy fantastic refreshments. In Halmstad, you are closer to the countryside than you probably realise. Amongst rolling fields, by imposing backdrops, next to the sea or in hidden away places, you will find those gem-like cafés that you will make a point of remembering. And returning to – time after time.
Söderpiren is on Västra Stranden in Halmstad, right next to the marina for small boats. Enjoy an invigorating lunch or refreshments in a glorious maritime environment. On sunny days, relax in the outdoor seating area. When autumn winds are blowing, shelter behind the glass windows and delight in watching the choppy waves. The view over the bay (Laholmsbukten) adds extra spice. Furthermore, man’s best friend is welcome at this dog-friendly café.
Göstas Café & Restaurang
Would you like your refreshments in front row seats by the sea? We can recommend Göstas Café & Restaurang in Steninge. The location is charmingly beautiful. Here, you will enjoy more than the refreshments alone. You have the pebble-dotted, sand fields to sunbathe on and the Steningekusten nature reserve on the doorstep. Of course, the coffee tastes particularly good to the accompaniment of the waves breaking on the beach!
Steninge Coastal Station
Not far from Göstas, you will find Steninge Coastal Station with its lovely summer café and home-made goodies. A delight for tummy and eyes alike! Enjoying the idyllic sea view, you can also savour the famous tiny pancakes, porridge made by a two-time world champion in this particular art or something particularly good from the station’s Bikebar. Steninge Coastal Station’s cuisine is built on concern for the environment, local/regional produce and vegetarian dishes. Take the opportunity to book a table and taste something made with Halland curly kale. Or why not even with seaweed or algae? Steninge Coastal Station also offers overnight accommodation.
Ekoteket på Hallandsgården
Hallandsgården is a true pearl. Beneath the old birch trees, you can enjoy a fantastic view across Halmstad. The café has been serving waffles with conserves and cream for over 90 years. Now called Ekoteket, the café has even more waffles on the menu. Everything is ecological and, primarily, locally produced. This is a summer café. While here, enjoy the amazing open-air museum. And let the children run wild in the inviting playground! Open summer time.
In the centre of the smart, tiny village of Harplinge in a building dating from the 1950s, there is Börjes Konditori. Drop in for a wonderful refreshment break or to buy tasty bread for your picnic basket. Did you know that, at the start of the 1980s, Börjes was the base where the local band Gyllene Tider rehearsed? No? Now you do!
World of Riccardo
At the fairy-tale nature reserve in Möllegård, you will find World of Riccardo. This is where Riccardo Boggian makes his Italian ice cream with flavours influenced by the season. An old cow and horse barn has been renovated and transformed into a charming, north Italian style café. Relax from everyday stress, enjoy light refreshments and an ice cream treat topped off with a premium cup of Italian coffee.
Dating from 1890, Särdals Kvarn is one of the Nordic countries’ largest windmills. Today, its historic sails no longer turn. Instead, it offers a rural, cosy, summer café for welcome refreshments. Take a seat in the verdant garden or in the carefully renovated stables. Enjoy the glorious pastries, filling open sandwiches and light lunches. Halland ingredients are the first choice here.
Just outside Halmstad, there is Heagårds Skafferi – a true oasis. You can eat heartily, take light refreshments, party, cosy down or just be! This imposing building, which dates from the 17th century, houses a restaurant, baker’s shop, café and delicatessen. Relish your refreshments in the naturally beautiful park and drink in the relaxingly inviting atmosphere.
Ten minutes from central Halmstad, you will find the charming Lindas Ekocafé surrounded by glorious countryside in the heart of the Halland landscape. To be exact, it is located in the old stables of Röinge Kronogård. The popular Patriks Prylar (home furnishings) is just next door. In the café’s charmingly personal interior, relax a while with locally produced and home-made refreshments.
Ebbas Café och Catering
When you go to Lilla Böslid, make a special point of driving down a long avenue to find Ebbas Café & Catering. The countryside feel permeates the café and its surrounds. Why not try some of its new variations on the classic waffle? A chocolate waffle with vanilla ice cream and sliced banana always goes down well.
Karlslunds Café offers coffee, waffles, home-baked treats and open sandwiches in an idyllic, southern Sweden, farm setting. Three sisters run this oasis of a café. The marvellous garden provides peaceful relaxation and a feeling that time has stopped ticking. Refreshments are also served in the 1876 farmhouse. Combine your visit here with an outing to "Olofstorp animal and garden". The walk from Karlslunds Café is extremely pleasant. Open summer time.
