Halmstad’s public art collection was added to in 2009 with the bronze Flicka i balja statue by Lena Cronqvist.
Cronqvist is possibly better known for her paintings, but in the 21st century has increasingly developed her sculptural artwork.
Cronqvist often uses subjects from her childhood, sometimes in frightening imagery. Flicka i balja is however a tranquil portrayal of the artist as a girl.
The location of the sculpture was chosen carefully. She is surrounded by trees close to the park’s popular playground. The girl looks out over Norra Katts Park, over the duck pond and beyond to the River Nissan.
