Beautiful churches in Halmstad

St. Nikolai Church

St. Nikolai Church is one of the few buildings in central Halmstad that escaped the great fire of 1619. The masonry technique used in the church tells us that it was probably built at the end of the 15th century. The church is named after the patron saint of seafarers and has been restored on several occasions, including the years 1757–1760, 1869–1872 and 1938–1941. The church building is of cathedral type.

St. Nikolai Church is very much a living church whose chiming bell invites you to everything from children's events and concerts to devotions and services. Vapnö Church

Vapnö Church is located on Vapnöhöjden with a beautiful view of Vapnödalen. The earliest parts of the church are from the 1350s. Between 1874 and 1876, a stone tower was erected on one end, replacing the earlier red-painted wooden tower. Vapnö Church was then given a neo-Gothic design, which characterises the exterior with, among other things, pointed window openings. Vapnö Church belongs to the parish of Söndrum-Vapnö. Snöstorp Church

Snöstorp Church, with its spectacular hexagonal shape, is a unique building. The church building was designed by architect Emil Langlet and was built as a hexagonal central church between 1880 and 1882. Langlet worked on the basis of ancient Roman round churches, but changed the appearance to give Snöstorp Church a hexagonal shape instead.

Immanuel Church

Immanuel Church (swe) External link, opens in new window. is beautifully situated with a view of the Picasso Park on the east bank of Nissan. The café in the church, called Strandgatan 20,, often holds concerts, lectures and other events for a wide audience. Immanuel Church is an independent parish and part of the Uniting Church in Sweden.

St. Olof’s Chapel

St. Olof's chapel is an old wooden church from 1721 that is beautifully located outside in Tylösand. Unfortunately, the chapel was demolished on its original site in Lidhult about 150 years after it was built. The chapel was rebuilt and inaugurated in Tylösand in 1950. Great effort has been put into finding original parts that were used, among other things, for residential buildings. Some parts were also found in the USA.

The chapel is beautifully situated with a wonderful view out over the sea. During the summer, singers, jazz evenings and other events are hosted here. The chapel is also a popular place for weddings, christenings, funerals, confirmations and services.

Kärleken Church

Kärleken Church was completed in 1958 and was designed by architect Johannes Olivegren. The church is quite small, but is still perceived as spacious. The interior is characterised by pine timber, which gives a warm feeling.

On the eastern façade are seven stained glass windows made by Ralph Bergholtz, which present the essence of the gospel message. The altar piece is made of glass mosaic and shows three scenes from the history of sacred suffering, also made by Ralph Bergholtz.

Söndrum Church

Söndrum Church is a medieval church. It was probably built in the 13th century, replacing an earlier wooden church. The present cubic stone tower was built in 1820 following the designs of master painter Peter Hallberg of Halmstad.

Söndrum Church is decorated on the vault walls with unique medieval paintings from the 15th century. During a renovation in 1979, a hidden fresco was revealed that gave the answer to when the church vault was built, stating "The work on this vault was carried out in the year of Our Lord 1428". Harplinge Church

Harplinge Church as it stands today was built between 1892 and 1893 from the main designs of the architect Carl Fahlström, with the help of Gustav Pettersson and Sven Gratz. On the present church site there was an earlier stone church with a Romanesque layout.
