General Traffic Awareness

A bike race takes up a lot of space when passing in large groups, and it can be hard to spot when cyclists come in smaller groups or individually.

Gravel Grit n Grind mostly takes place on open roads, where racers share the road with regular traffic. We have race marshals who can inform you when the race is in progress. We also have motorcycles that signal ahead and can step in if they see a potential traffic hazard.

We ask for your understanding and cooperation. If your journey is delayed, we apologize and hope you’ll bear with us. In the end, it’s about keeping both cyclists and other road users safe.

Tips if you encounter a bike race on your route:

  • Pull over to the side of the road when you see cyclists approaching. The peloton usually passes quickly, and you can continue shortly after.
  • Ask the marshals what’s going on. It’s a great opportunity to get information.
  • If you’re traveling in the same direction as the cyclists, stay behind them until you can pass safely. Give a light honk before overtaking so the cyclist knows a car is coming. Don’t rush—make sure to pass safely. After overtaking, keep an eye on your rearview mirror in case cyclists are catching up again.
