About Halmstad – the town with three hearts

Around 90 000 people live in Halmstad. Its favourable position on the west coast means that business is growing, tourism is thriving and the population is happy and increasing. Halmstad council is aiming to develop Halmstad as a hometown, a town of knowledge and a town of experiences.

In 2007 Halmstad celebrated its 700th anniversary. The spectacular party, held by and for Halmstad people, lasted the whole year and turned the town into a huge party venue.

 

The story of the three hearts
Where do the three hearts on the coat of arms come from? The people of Halmstad received the three hearts as a gift from the Danish royal family in the 16th century, after having put up a valiant defence against the Swedes.
