Beaches and places to bathe in Halmstad

The sand, warmed by the sun, tells the tale of the day’s beautiful weather long after the sun has set. The flagship of beaches is called Tylösand, but there are many such pearls along the coast. Here you can dive from the rocks, explore small individual bays and walk along beaches extending for miles. There is even a dog bath for you and your four-legged friend, near the centre at Västra stranden.
Beaches in Halmstad
Below we have compiled a list of Halmstad’s beaches, several of which boast Blue Flag status. If you need to know the location of a particular beach, they are all marked on a map via the link underneath.

Tylösandsstranden (Tylösand Beach)
Tylösand, with its well-known beach, lies 8 km west of Halmstad. It has proudly boasted Blue Flag status – the symbol of clean waters and good environmental and safety standards – since 1995. On sunny days, the crowds outside Hotel Tylösand can remind you of the Mediterranean, and those in search of a more upbeat tempo visit the After Beach bar on July afternoons. Furthest out on the peninsula are Tjuvahålan and Paradiset, with smaller beaches and rocks. Lifeguards watch over the 10 km of beaches from mid-June to mid-August. The specialist lifeguard school (the only one in the Nordic countries) trains around 60 lifeguards from several countries every year.

Tjuvahålan and Svärjarehålan (Beach with facilities for the disabled)
Svärjarehålan in Tylösand is a Blue Flag beach with facilities for the disabled designed in co-operation with disabled organisations. It has rocks, sandy beaches and lawns. Cement paths leading down to the sea surround the grassed areas.

Facilities include changing rooms, toilets, showers, emergency telephones, first-aid kits, a shop, a kitchenette and a sunny terrace. There are lifebuoys and lifeboats on the beach, and next to it a large car-park with 18 disabled spaces.

Frösakull and Ringenäs
Beyond Tylösand, you will eventually reach Frösakull and then Ringenäs, both of which have a Blue Flag. There’s plenty of room here and at Ringenäs you can drive close to the shore itself.

Östra Stranden
Östra Stranden is about 5 km from the centre, and is the favourite choice of the people of Halmstad. Much of the old atmosphere still remains, with beach huts scattered among the sand dunes. The beach is shallow and further south by the mouth of Fylleån, there is a nature reserve as well as Hägon naturist beach, Halmstad’s official nudist beach.

Gröningen is a bathing spot with facilities for the disabled by Östra stranden, with toilets, changing rooms, disabled showers, ramps and steps down to the water, handrails on the grassed areas and wheelchairs for bathing.

Lakes
If the smell of salt is not for you, there are beautiful lakes in wooded countryside. In Tönnersjö there is Tostarpasjön, a lake with a beautiful beach, pier and clear water. Toftasjön is a forest lake in Skedala Forest, with rambling paths around the lake. Brearedssjön in Simlångsdalen has a bay for bathing and a pier, and outside Simlångsdalen is Gyltigesjön with a beach and excellent opportunities to take a stroll between dips.
